Pressurized boiler — not a flash steamer
The JEL-3 generates consistent, high-pressure steam from a sealed tank. Unlike flash steamers, it delivers continuous volume and pressure for a truly controlled shaping process — critical for felt that needs even penetration, not surface dampening.

Not all steam is the same — and not all steamers are built for hats. A home iron or a cheap hand steamer produces surface moisture, not pressurized steam. The difference shows in the result: less shape hold on a poorly pressurized boiler, hats that lose shape more easily, and respond better to blocking because the felt fibers are fully relaxed, not just surface dampened.
The Hoffman JEL-3's adjustable thermostatic controls mean we can match steam intensity to your hat's specific material. A stiff vintage wool hat needs a different approach than a soft felt rodeo crown. We do it by hand, every time.
